Inspired by the video game Oregon Trail, Manifest Destiny, and the stories of Laura Ingalls Wilder, The Bicycle Western was a performance that took place with over 65 participants from fifth to twelfth streets in downtown Los Angeles. Participants were not given any advance instruction besides to bring a bicycle (or cycle of any sort) or a skateboard to the happening. Upon congregation, everyone road together, following directions provided an animated projection from Hutin's covered wagon. If followed litterally, participants would be at once guided down Los Angeles Street while performing a square dance routine. At the end of the journey, performers were treated to bread and butter sandwiches to go along with their carnation boutoniers.
